State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald is announcing that College Savings Iowa will be giving away a $529 scholarship to a Winneshiek County student by the end of this year, as well as 98 other scholarships—one in each of Iowa's counties.  Fitzgerald, whose office is in charge of the 529 college savings program, says the contest is aimed at publicizing the advantages of opening a 529 college savings plan.  "No matter how old your children and grandchildren are, or what their dreams may be, saving and contributing to a College Savings Iowa account could be one of the most important gifts of all: the gift of education," he says.

In addition to giving away a $529 scholarship in each of Iowa's 99 counties, Fitzgeralds' office will be selecting a grand prize winner to receive a $1,529 College Savings Iowa contribution, with entries drawn from all entrants across the state.
