48-year-old Crystal LeCroy of Des Moines is facing 11 criminal charges in connection with a multi-vehicle chase on Highway 9 west of Decorah on October 8th. LeCroy allegedly crashed her vehicle into five other vehicles, including a Winneshiek County Sheriff's patrol car.
Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx on Monday told county supervisors that LeCroy's car insurance company is balking at paying for damages to the patrol car. According to Marx, the insurance company says LeCroy intentionally rammed the five vehicles—so she's not covered under her policy.
The patrol car was destroyed in the accident, so the department has had to buy a new squad car. Marx says his department will continue to try to get reimbursed for the cost of the new vehicle, but at this point, it's uncertain. He says the owners of the other four vehicles which LeCroy allegedly crashed into have also reported having problems getting paid for the damages to their vehicles.
No date has been selected yet for LeCroy's trial on the 11 charges she faces.
