Coronavirus surge is hitting NE Iowa hard

Winneshiek County is nearing the 900 mark for cases of COVID-19 this year. The Iowa Department of Public Health's weekend figures show 887 all-time COVID-19 cases in the county, with 524 of those cases having recovered, but ten people having died. That means 353 people currently have COVID-19.
The numbers in the five other counties of NE Iowa are similar. Clayton County now has had 999 cases of COVID. 436 of those people have recovered, while four have died, meaning 559 Clayton County residents have COVID now.
Fayette County is also nearing 1,000 cases, with 944 people having COVID-19 since March, with 371 people recovered and eight people dying, meaning 565 Fayette County residents currently have COVID.
Chickasaw County has had 781 cases of COVID-19, with 582 people recovering and three deaths reported. That means 196 people currently have COVID-19.
Allamakee County has had 709 cases of COVID-19, with 362 of those people recovering and 11 people dying, meaning 336 people currently have COVID-19.
Finally, Howard County has had 499 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed. 260 of those people have recovered, while nine people have died, meaning 230 people are still recovering.
In the six counties, 4,819 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the start of the epidemic. 45 deaths have been reported. 2,301 people with COVID have recovered, meaning 2,473 people are still in quarantine or isolation. That figure represents more than half of all the NE Iowa residents who have had COVID since the epidemic began.
