Decorah Food Pantry will be open extra hours on Wednesday

Decorah Community Food Pantry will be closed the Friday after Thanksgiving, but has extended its hours on Wednesday, being open from 12:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m..

The Pantry is also offering $10 coupons to each family for the purchase of a turkey or other Thanksgiving meat. The coupons are redeemable at any of the four grocery stores in Decorah.

"During this pandemic we have encouraged clients to order on-line with a specific pick-up time. This protects both the clients and the volunteers and allows the clients to choose the food they want. However, clients who don't use this service can still come and receive a pre-selected bag of groceries," stated Director Carol Hemesath.

According to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, the number of food insecure residents of Winneshiek County has increased during COVID from 9.5 percent to 12.4 percent. "This is an alarming statistic and we are grateful to our volunteers and donors who keep us going, so we can serve those in need," said board member Georgie Klevar.
