New deputy begins work at the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office

Calmar native Makenz (Mak) Kriener is the newest deputy on the staff of the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office.

Kriener graduated from South Winneshiek High school in 2009. In 2016, he was hired as a full time jailer by the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office.  He attended Upper Iowa University and Northeast Iowa Community College, where he graduated with a degree in psychology and criminal justice.

In July of 2018, Kriener began working as a police office in Cresco, specializing in narcotics enforcement as well as serving as a part time Deputy Sheriff for the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office.

Kriener is married and he and his wife Hanna are expecting their first child and are moving to a home in Spillville.
