Due to increased county COVID-19 positivity rates, Decorah Community Schools will be sharing district data daily at least through Thanksgiving break.
On Tuesday, DSCD shared data showing that even though the 14-day positivity rate in Winnishiek County is steadily increasing, the number of staff currently isolating or quarantining and those with positive COVID tests remains about the same. The number of students isolating or quarantining decreased from 67 on November 12th to 64 on November 17th, while the total number of students with a positive COVID result remains about the same.
On Monday, Governor Reynolds issued a new Emergency Proclamation which includes new guidance for schools. Under the new guidance elementary and middle level athletic, extracurricular, and school-sponsored events which are indoor gatherings of more than 15 people are prohibited. High school sponsored athletic, extracurricular, and school-sponsored events are allowed with spectator limits and spectator mask requirements.
The DCSD will follow this new Emergency Proclamation and is working to develop plans for modifying, rescheduling, or canceling upcoming events. Decorah Superintendent Mark Lane said, "We are disappointed that we have had to make abrupt changes, and apologize to our students and families who will miss out on these planned events."
