The Seamsters Union of Winneshiek County is a growing group of area volunteers who cut out fabric and/or sew fabric face masks and PPE gowns for Winneshiek Medical Center and other groups in the county. Since its inception in April, the group has sewn 32,000 masks.
Group organizer Shirley Vermace says the Seamsters currently have about 120 masks on hand, but she fills the community mask bins with more each week. The bins can be found at the Oneota Community Food Coop, The Depot Outlet, and Decorah Bicycles. Vermace says they may have some at the indoor Farmers Market in December, as well.
The group currently has about 20 volunteers sewing masks and PPE gowns, but more volunteers are always welcome. If you would like to join the group, email Vermace at svermace@gmail.com, call 563-419-2999, or find the group on Facebook at Seamsters of Winneshiek County.
