LCWC scholarship recipient Keaton Wentz
The Luther College Woman's Club has awarded a $1,500 renewable scholarship to Mount Vernon resident Keaton Wentz. The scholarship is renewable each year for the next three years.
Wenz is a first-year student at Luther, majoring in political science and philosophy with a prelaw focus. He currently participates on the Luther Mock Trial team. While in high school, Wenz took part in choir, student government, speech, and the Science Olympiad and was a member of the National Honor Society. He also volunteered extensively, for which he was named an Iowa Youth Salute Award winner and a National Youth Leader of the Year finalist.
Said LCWC president Bette Eells, "Because of your support, we were also able to honor our ongoing scholarship pledge to three other Luther students, despite the fundraising challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic."
The Luther College Woman's Club awards $6,000 in student scholarships each year. To date, the LCWC has given more than $325,000 to Luther. Funds to support these initiatives are typically raised through the club's treat project, when club members bake treats for Luther students, and Christmas treat bags distributed to students during the "Christmas at Luther" season. However, COVID-19 forced the temporary suspension of this service this year.
