The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says it received a phone call around 6:00 Wednesday night, with the caller saying a hunter from Austin, Minnesota was missing.  Two men from Austin came to the Canoe Creek Access Area in Pleasant Township of Winneshiek County to hunt.

The missing hunter was identified as Maya Htoo.  Htoo did not return to the designated meeting location, so the other hunter reported him missing.  The Sheriff's Office and Decorah Fire Department conducted a search of the area throughout the evening and overnight.

On Thursday morning, volunteers and other emergency workers were called in to help in the search.  During the search, Htoo was located in a wooded area of the state access.  The searchers determined that Htoo had died.  His cause of death remains under investigation, pending the completion of the medical examiner's autopsy.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, Decorah Fire Department, and Winneshiek County Emergency Management were assisted by multiple agencies including fire, law and EMS.
