Fayette County surpasses Winneshiek County in both active and total COVID-19 cases

Clayton County continues to have the highest number of total COVID-19 cases and the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in NE Iowa, but it is now followed by Fayette County, not Winneshiek County.

Clayton County reports 23 new cases, 388 active cases, and 737 total cases.  Fayette County reports 39 new cases, 361 active cases, and 686 total cases. Winneshiek County reports 22 new cases, 197 active cases, and 669 total cases.  Allamakee County reports 17 new cases, 233 active cases, and 550 total cases.  Chickasaw County reports 35 new cases, 108 active cases, and 535 total cases.  Howard County reports 17 new cases, 124 active cases, and 356 total cases.

Across Iowa, there have been 4,764 new, confirmed cases within the past 24-hours, which brings the state's total number of cases to 166,021. The number of active positive cases in the state is 61,810.

According to the state's dashboard, 230 new patients were hospitalized across Iowa in the past 24 hours. This sets another record for the total number of hospitalizations in the state at 1,190. Of those hospitalizations, 210 are in the ICU and 101 are on ventilators. The state reports 26 deaths within this time frame, leaving the state's death toll at 1,898.
