Winneshiek Medical Center officials asking the public for help in responding to the latest COVID-19 peak

Winneshiek Medical Center has experienced an increase in the number of patients it has been seeing—not just because of COVID-19, but for a multitude of reasons.

Winneshiek Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Dr. Thomas Marquardt says, "As COVID-19 cases continue to spread locally, health care resources are beginning to be strained."  Marquardt says as more patients are hospitalized for COVID-19 and resulting complications, WMC may have to again limit elective procedures, in-person appointments and other health care in order to manage the surge.

However, he stresses that the public can help the medical center better manage patient care by taking the COVID-19 prevention measures recommended by experts, including wearing a mask in all public settings; continuing to socially distance from one another, including by avoiding medium to large gatherings; washing your hands thoroughly and often; using hand sanitizer regularly; staying home if you are sick; and getting your flu shots.
.
"Following these recommendations protects each other and protects our health care system, says Dr. Marquardt.
