State Assembly candidate Kayla Koether concedes

Democratic House District 55 candidate Kayla Koether has conceded to Republican Mike Bergan, who was re-elected Tuesday, with 8,883 received to Koether's 7,460 votes received.

"While the outcome wasn't what we'd hoped, I'd like to wish Rep. Bergan the best in his upcoming term," Koether said. "I hope he is able to work with integrity on behalf of all Northeast Iowans and contribute to solutions for the many critical challenges we face."

Although more absentee ballots will arrive and be included in the count before the deadline on Monday, November 9th, there are not enough outstanding absentee ballots to sway the outcome.

Said Koether, "I'm proud that thanks to our work after 2018, timely-mailed absentee ballots will count in races up and down the ballot this year and in future elections."
