COVID-19 cases surge in Clayton County

COVID-19 numbers keep climbing in the six-county region of northeast Iowa. Clayton County continues to have the highest numbers in the region, and has now surpassed the 600 mark. Up 33 from yesterday, Clayton County reports a total of 616 positive cases.


Winneshiek County reports 6 new cases since Tuesday, for a total of 563, Fayette County reports 20 new cases for a total of 498, Allamakee County reports 6 new cases for a total of 452, Chickasaw County reports 13 new cases for a total of 426, and Howard County reports 7 new cases for a total of 303.


According to the state's dashboard, 164 new patients were hospitalized across Iowa in the past 24 hours. This sets another record for the total number of hospitalizations in the state — 777 (up from 730 on Tuesday). Of those hospitalizations, 182 are in the ICU and 63 are on ventilators.


Iowa reports 2,818 new, confirmed COVID-19 cases within the past 24-hours. This brings the state's total to 136,047. Iowa reports 26 deaths within this same time period, bringing the state's death toll to 1,781.
