Winneshiek County Recycling Manager Scott Logsdon says starting today, there will be a box marked "Political Yard Signs" at the drop off shed in Freeport. This will only be available at the Freeport facility -- there will not containers for yard signs at the rural recycling sites.
Logsdon says it would be very helpful if people would separate the sign from the wire holder.
The political signs are recycled and used in various ways. Logsdon says, "Some will be used by local thrift stores and some will be used here at the Recycling Center for what we call headers (the top and bottom of bales). All will go to good use!"
In the City of Decorah, the ordinance covering yard signs says they "must be removed within seven daysof the event for which they promote." In the case of this year's election, that means the yard signs must be removed by Monday, November 9th.
