For the past several years, bow hunting for deer has been allowed in some Decorah Parks. Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod says hunters have to first come to City Hall to talk with Park-Rec staffers for permission. There are several rules regulating deer hunting and hunters will be allowed to use only designated spots in designated parks.
Around half a dozen hunters take advantage of the program each year. The program was started as a way to reduce Decorah's deer population, but Monday night at the Decorah City Council meeting, when Nimrod was asked if the program is working to reduce the deer population, he replied, "I don't know about that."
