October in Decorah was cool and dry

Most months in 2020 in Decorah have been hotter than normal and wetter than normal.  But that didn't apply to October, according to Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz.  He says October was more than two degrees cooler than normal and had less rain than normal.

To be exact, Bernatz says temperatures in Decorah in October averaged 47.6 degrees, which was 2.6 degrees cooler than the average temperature of 50.2 degrees.  Compared with this October, 99 previous Octobers in Decorah were warmer and only 27 were cooler.

A total of 1.61 inches of rain fell in Decorah on four days in the month.  That was 0.71 inches less than the average of 2.32 inches for October.

October broke a string of five consecutive months with above average temperatures.  Still, nine of the past 12 months have been warmer than average.  Precipitation in Decorah over the past 12 months is still 3.15 inches higher than average.
