Is a record turnout possible Tuesday?

Posted: Mon, Nov 2, 2020 5:36 PM

The last time there was a Presidential election--in 2016--81.6 percent of all registered voters in the county cast a ballot.

That was 11,479 ballots cast out of 14,065 possible.

Polls open at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday in Winneshiek County and close at 9:00 p.m. and already nearly 9,000 absentee ballots have been cast.  That means a turnout of even 3,000 voters on Tuesday would be enough to set a record.

decorahnews.com will be at the Winneshiek County Courthouse Tuesday night, posting vote totals as soon as they are available.  The counting of absentee ballots will begin early in the day on Tuesday and they could be the first totals cast--but they would not be official, although they could disclose what way county voters are leaning.
