Letter to the Editor: "I fully support my husband's signs"

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Emily Neal of Decorah):

"I fully support my husband's signs, both the content and his First Amendment right to have them on our property. His actions are far more patriotic and noble than by those who have been desecrating the American Flag by flying it in conjunction with a Trump flag, wearing it as a mask, on a t-shirt or probably even as underwear (see the American Flag Policy). What kind of president only supports the red states or flies another flag other than the American Flag at their rallies?

I took an oath as a democratically-elected official to uphold the Constitution of Iowa and of the United States, which means working hard against those who would seek to destroy our democracy. The biggest threat to our democracy is the president who considers himself a demigod, who asks for loyalty to him, over loyalty to our nation.

My husband's signs are a symbol of his creativity and his bravery. His signs are cathartic and often make me laugh. We each think for ourselves and support one another. While we, at times, may have different ways of doing things, we both work as hard as we can to stand up for what is right and to protect our democracy."
