The COVID-19 surge continues in NE Iowa and throughout the state

Winneshiek County is not the only county in NE Iowa experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.  Yes, Winneshiek County reported 543 cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday evening--an increase of 43 cases since Thursday afternoon.

But now Clayton County has surpassed Winneshiek County--despite a lower total population.  According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, 555 COVID cases have been reported in Clayton County.  Two other NE Iowa counties have over 400 cases: Allamakee County has 430 and Fayette County has 446.  Chickasaw County has had 392 cases, while Howard County has had 293 cases, meaning there have been a total of 2,659 cases in NE Iowa since the epidemic began.

COVID-19 has led to 35 deaths in NE Iowa, with Howard, Winneshiek and Allamakee counties each reporting 9; Fayette County having four; Clayton County having three and Chickasaw County having one.

384 Winneshiek County residents have recovered from COVID; 266 in Allamakee County; 361 in Clayton County; 254 in Fayette County; 353 in Chickasaw County; and 190 in Howard County.  That's a total of 1,808 people who have recovered from COVID.

That means 816 people are still either hospitalized, in isolation or in quarantine because of COVID-19--with Winneshiek County having a total of 150 people in one of those three conditions.
