Winneshiek County officials ask: Keep political signs out of the right-of-way

Winneshiek County officials have begun getting complaints about political yard signs placed too closely to the road.
Iowa code forbids political signs in public right-of-ways. Not only that, but it specifies it's the job of county road crews to remove the signs. That takes time away from the road crews being able to do higher priority jobs.
County officials say political signs should be placed behind the fence line or anywhere on private property--but can't be placed in the right-of-way.
