Winneshiek County officials are hoping to get bids in February or March on the project to resurface Bluffton Road. Now they're working on figuring out how to have the needed funds ready.
That's going to be a slight stretch because the county might have to come up with up to $500,000 in its own funds for the work that will be done. On Monday, county supervisors discussed how to come up with the additional money. One topic they did not discuss was postponing the project, agreeing that the street project has been delayed "long enough."
County Engineer Lee Bjerke says the project has been scaled back a little in the segment north of Bluffton, but there are no plans to cut back on the work south of Bluffton.
That means the county instead will have to look at taking money from other internal funds. No decision was reached on Monday and probably won't have to be made until after bids are opened, but supervisors agree that funding for the project could be tight.
