Decorah Fire Department called to the scene of a trailer with round bales of hay burning

The Decorah Fire Department was notified around 2:15 Thursday afternoon about a round bale on fire on a trailer on North Winn Road.

Firefighters found a semi-tractor trailer had pulled off Highway 52 onto North Winn Road. The driver had noticed his load of 26 round bales was burning. He told firefighters he saw smoke coming from the bales and pulled the truck over and stopped.

The fire was knocked down and the semi and trailer were pulled into a field. The bales were removed from the trailer and allowed to burn. Firefighters remained on scene to monitor the fire.

No damage amount is available currently. No injuries were reported. The round bales were a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
