Decorah firefighters worked Wednesday on the new fire training facility located on Old Stage Road. Decorah Fire Chief Mike Ashbacher says the first, second and third floors of the main building have been finished inside. A grain bin has been set up for farm fire training drills. A tower is on site, but still needs to be put up.
Ashbacher says he's been pleased with the pace of the improvements and his department is now ready to show off the facility, but because of the COVID-19 epidemic it will not be a public tour, but tours given to Winneshiek County Supervisors and a separate tour for Decorah City council members. Ashbacher says there's been "quite a bit of progress" toward completing the project—and firefighters would like to show off their work.
