Decorah High School will hold Iowa High School speech judge training on Wednesday night

Posted: Sun, Oct 4, 2020 7:10 AM

Decorah High School is hosting an Iowa High School Speech Association certification meeting at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the high school cafeteria.

The meeting certifies or re-certifies any adult to judge for IHSSA contests and costs $5.00. No experience is necessary to attend this meeting. Says drama coach Molly Holkesvik, "We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who want to help students build their communication skills through speech. This certification meeting provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the IHSSA, the variety of speech contests a person can judge, and the categories in which students can participate."

The meeting qualifies people to judge at any IHSSA state contest.  Judges are paid a fee for judging.  This year Decorah is hosting the State Large Group Contest, so participants in Wednesday night's training could even start judging in Decorah.

People who have any questions or would like to know more about the Iowa High School Speech Association can contact Holkesvik.  To sign up for the certification meeting, e-mail Molly Holkesvik at molly.holkesvik@decorah.k12.ia.us.
