Archaeological research by Spillville resident Russell Baldner has been published in the 2020 Journal of the Iowa Archeological Society.
Baldner's article is titled "Indigenous Equations: Exploring Iconography and Meaning in Rock Art of Northeast Iowa." It's his fourth article in a series focusing on the Late Prehistoric to Early Historic Native American petroglyphs (rock carvings) and pictographs (rock paintings) of northeast Iowa.
"Indigenous Equations" focuses on the interpretation of Northeast Iowa rock art, including obscure seldom recognized sources of historic Native American testimony, oral tradition and ethnography.
Copies of the Journal are available for purchase from the Iowa Archeological Society or the author and can be read at Preus Library at Luther College when public access is allowed.
