Decorah HS FFA team competes at District Soils Contest

Four Decorah FFA members finished 5th overall at the District FFA Soils Contest last Thursday at Hawkeye Community College.
 
Grace Gerleman, Dalton Hemesath, Shayla Smith and Alex Zweibohmer took first place in the written exam portion of the competition. Alex Zweibohmer placed 9th overall individually.
 
Participants were tested on their knowledge on surface features, the soil profile, land capability and productivity, evaluation of land use and management practices, and suitability of soils for non-agricultural uses. They also took a 40-point knowledge exam and evaluated four soil pits.
 
There were 18 teams competing.
