The Presidential campaign has led to an unusually high number of political signs in yards throughout Decorah.
Here's what you need to know about putting up a yard sign for your favorite candidate:
The rule says, "Signs announcing candidates seeking public political office or pertinent political issues...shall be confined to private property and shall be removed within one week following the election to which they pertain."
That means signs must be placed behind the sidewalk on your property--NOT on public property, which also means you can't attach a sign to street signs or place one right next to the curb.
Notice, too, that political yard signs have to be removed within seven days after the election, which means November 10th this year. Winneshiek County Recycling has accepted political yard signs at its Freeport location in past years, so do everyone a favor and recycle your yard sign after the votes come in.
