One minor change is being made to the City of Decorah's mask ordinance

Decorah City Council members have agreed to make one small change to the city's resolution requiring everyone to wear masks when inside public buildings.

Health officials have changed their advice on masks for very young children, now recommending masks be worn by everyone over the age of five—not over the age of two.  The World Health Organization says, "Children aged 5 years and under should not be required to wear masks. This is based on the safety and overall interest of the child and the capacity to appropriately use a mask with minimal assistance."  The City of Decorah's mask ordinance had previously stated masks should be worn by all children over the age of two.

Otherwise, city council members say they're pleased with the results of the ordinance.  Andy Carlson says mask wearing has been "pretty good" at Decorah High School.  Emily Neal, who teaches in Postville, says "we've been proactive" about mask wearing.

The United States has passed the 200,000 mark of people who have died because of the coronavirus.
