The resignation of 5th Ward Decorah City council member Johanna Bergan has led to a vacancy on the Decorah City Council. Now a retired Winneshiek County sheriff's Deputy has submitted his application for the position. Tim Felton is a Locust Road resident who previously ran for Sheriff.
The new vacancy on the Decorah City Council will be filled by appointment.
Letters of application will be accepted at City Hall through October 1st from people willing to serve on the post. There is roughly one year remaining on the term.
The remaining six members of the Decorah City Council will vote on which candidate should fill the rest of the term. If members of the public disagree with the city council's appointment, they can put together a petition with at least 53 signatures of 5th Ward residents calling for a special election.
