New Hy-Vee food store opens its doors in Decorah

A crowd of people gathered at the front doors of the new Decorah Hy-Vee at 6:00 Tuesday morning.  It was the first day of business for Hy-Vee in Decorah, occupying a space in Centrum Plaza which had formerly been held by Quillin's.

One of the early shoppers, Diana Major, said, "It's so clean and organized!"  Another early shopper, Greg Murphy, said the store was "very impressive" and suggested other grocery stores would have to step up their games in order to compete.

The 28,000-square-foot store has a full-service meat department, a Market Grille Express, an in-store Starbucks, a Wall of Values and an adjacent wine and spirits section.  The new Hy-Vee is open 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., seven days a week.  The adjacent wine and spirits store is open 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
