Winneshiek County Public Health Director Krista Vanden Brink was worried that the Labor Day weekend might lead to a peak in local COVID-19 cases two weeks later. On Monday, she told Winneshiek County Supervisors that the peak now has arrived. 19 new cases of the coronavirus were registered in Winneshiek County after 4:00 p.m. Friday.
"People need to be smart," she told county board members. She said Winneshiek County now has 3 people hospitalized and 29 people in isolation. Figures used by Winneshiek County Health are more current than the figures used by the Iowa Department of Public Health because of the built-in delays of the statewide reporting system.
