2019's flower baskets in Decorah

Downtown Decorah Betterment Association Board President David Lester has released a statement about this year's flower baskets:

"DDBA's biggest most visible project is the hanging flower baskets that line our downtown streets from the end of May to late September. This summer's extreme weather conditions created some challenging conditions to maintain the flowers and keep them as lush and beautiful as we've come to expect. Extremely hot and dry conditions definitely played a role in stressing the plants this summer and our watering crew did their best to keep up and give the plants much needed water during that time.

As a board we discussed the issue of the condition of the plants this year and admit that we can do better with the proper fertilization of the plants and better communication with involved crew members to make sure these plants stay lush and look beautiful even in extreme conditions.

We are committed to the long term success of the flower baskets for our downtown. If you or if you know someone who has a green thumb and would be interested in helping with the flower basket program, feel free to contact the Chamber office at 563-382-3990."
