Winneshiek County Engineer Lee Bjerke says his department has finished taking a survey of the speeds cars and trucks drive on Quarry Hill Road and Highland Drive. Neighbors living on the roads have asked the county for help in slowing traffic using the two roads as a detour around Locust Road, which is closed during construction.
Bjerke told county supervisors Monday that most of the vehicles checked for speeds were driving 30 to 35 miles an hour. Supervisors discussed with Bjerke the possibility of imposing a 25 mile an hour speed limit on the two roads—which would match the speed limit at the southern end of Quarry Hill Road—but Bjerke said a 30-mile-an-hour speed limit would be his recommendation, since it would be easier for police to enforce.
A resolution imposing the new speed limits will be introduced at next Monday's county board meeting.
