The demand for absentee ballots is strong in Winneshiek County

Posted: Mon, Sep 14, 2020 11:54 AM

Nearly 4,000 voters in Winneshiek County have sent in requests to be mailed an absentee ballot come October 5th.  If the trend continues over the next weeks, the number of absentee ballots cast in the November election could set a record.

County Auditor Ben Steines says 59 percent of county residents who voted in 2016 did so by using an absentee ballot—over 7,000 people.  Voters can cast an absentee ballot by mailing a ballot to the Winneshiek County Auditor's Office, or by coming in to the Auditor's Office to vote before the election.  Voters can also drop off their absentee ballots starting October 5th in the dropbox in front of the Winneshiek County Courthouse.

Absentee ballot requests received before Monday, October 5th, will result in ballots being mailed out on October 5th.  Absentee ballot requests received after that date will result in ballots being mailed out as soon as possible.
