Court Street project will begin Monday; Locust Road project will begin a new phase

Monday will be an important day for two street projects in Decorah.

Crews will begin working on the Court Street project on Monday.  No parking signs have been put up along the two blocks of the project. 

The project will consist of replacing the old curbing on Court Street on the block where the Courthouse sits.  The Court Street/West Main Street intersection also will be redone.  Brick pavers will be removed but put back in the walkways, and the intersection will be improved.  ADA-compliant ramps will be installed at the intersection.

The project carries a price tag of just under $238,000.  Cost estimates heading into the project placed the cost at around $175,000, but a number of bids have been higher than normal this year.

Meanwhile, the Locust Road project is nearing a new phase--the pouring of concrete.  Work on the project so far has centered on infrastructure items such as drainage culverts and the removal of trees so the road will be more open to sunshine, preventing problems with icy or snowy surfaces.
