Statewide, COVID-19 cases surpass 70,000; in NE Iowa, they surpass 1,000

The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise--both in the six northeasternmost counties of Iowa and in the state as a whole.
The latest figures reported by the Iowa Department of Public Health put the total number of cases statewide a 70,404, meaning the state has now surpassed the 70,000 mark.
Winneshiek, Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Chickasaw and Howard counties have now surpassed the 1,000 mark, with a total of 1,077 cases of COVID-19. Winneshiek County still has the largest number of confirmed cases--242, with 115 of those patients still recovering and with four deaths reported.
Howard County has the next highest number of still recovering patients--79--with a total of 152 cases and three deaths. Fayette County has 72 still recovering patients, with one death and a total of 159 cases. Chickasaw County has 57 patients still recovering from COVID-19, with 140 total cases and no deaths. Allamakee County has had 192 COVID-19 cases, with five deaths and 34 people still recovering; and Clayton County has had 192 cases, with three deaths and just 27 people still recovering.
