Truck strikes and kills eight Holstein calves

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says a truck struck and killed eight Holstein calves that were on the roadway on Highway W14 last weekend.

63-year-old Joseph Needham of Ridgeway was traveling south on the road around 5:30 Friday morning when he came upon the calves.  Needham was not injured.  The accident caused an estimated $14,500 in damages.
