Four of the projects are between Decorah and Calmar, in the southern part of Winneshiek County. The other two projects are in northern Winneshiek County.
The Winneshiek County Board has given its approval to six new wetlands being created in the county as part of the Upper Iowa Flood Reduction Program.
Four of the projects will replace existing culverts with new culverts which include a dam to reduce floodwater flows. Two of the projects will involve pond structures.
All six projects are being spearheaded by Northeast Iowa RC&D, with landowner involvement. The projects will be done either late this fall or early next spring.
The funding for the Upper Iowa Flood Reduction Program ends on January 1st of 2022, so supervisors are anxious to see all the grant money gets used before the deadline.
