County supervisors are being asked to pass a mask wearing resolution

The Decorah City Council might not be the only Winneshiek County governmental group to weigh in on wearing masks.  Winneshiek County Supervisors are now being asked to approve a statement about wearing masks.

"I think we should (do it)," said supervisors John Beard when the topic was raised Monday morning during the weekly meeting of supervisors.  "I would like to come up with some language (for a resolution)," he added.

The topic came up for discussion after Winneshiek County Public Health Director Krista Vanden Brink told supervisors the recent spike in coronavirus cases in Winneshiek County (132 in August at last count) came from cases all over the county--not just from Decorah, but from Fort Atkinson, Spillville, Ridgeway and "all zip codes."  She told supervisors people aren't following recommendations during weddings, country club events and visits to restaurants.

Supervisor Mark Kuhn said he would support a resolution about mask wearing--but one that read it was "strongly recommended."  Beard weighed in again on the topic, saying, "We need to move on this."

However, a meeting of the County Health Board will be held Wednesday, September 9th, so supervisors might delay a vote on a resolution and wait to see whether the County Health Board sends a resolution to the county board for action.
