Letter to the Editor: Maybe we should keep our distance from strangers!

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by C. Dennis Ohlert of Decorah):
"I'm wondering if the COVID spike in Decorah and Decorah's peak tourist season are related. Or is it just a coincidence? Then, too, Luther students will be returning soon. Is this influx of thousands of people (per the Mayor's own remarks) bringing the disease with it? The Mayor wants them to feel safe. What about OUR safety?
At risk of sounding xenophobic, and I know it goes against Decorah's reputation as a welcoming community, perhaps it might be a good idea to wear one's mask and keep one's distance from strangers."
(Editor's note: Local Health officials say the COVID spike is from 'multiple hot spots,' so we can't blame tourists and Luther students for all the cases and not look in the mirror.)
