Letter to the Editor: Stealing (a yard sign) is always wrong

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Melinda Lovitt McBay of Decorah):

A few days ago, a dear friend of mine had her lawn sign stolen from her front yard. She is 80+ years old, and recently moved back to Decorah to be with family and her love for this area. She has her own political views, as do we all, and was showing her support for the presidential candidate she believes will best support issues such as: Medicare, social security, and the Post Office.

I am saddened and surprised that someone would do such a thing. She, certainly, would never interfere with another person's belongings or their right to communicate freely. She has always believed every citizen has his/her right to free speech, as stated in the first amendment of our Constitution.

And of course, stealing is always wrong."
