Remote and in-person learning began this week for Decorah CSD students.
In an email to the district's families, Superintendent Mark Lane said, "We had a wonderful first day of hybrid learning today."
Lane continued, noting the Red Group students, who attend in-person classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and alternating Wednesdays, did a fantastic job of wearing face coverings, and learning and practicing many new routines.
Blue Group students started the week with remote learning. Lane said, "I heard from several teachers that Blue Group members were logging on and engaging in classwork." Blue Group students will be in their assigned schools on Thursday and Friday while the Red Group will participate in remote learning on these days.
The hot, humid weather this week might cause a bump or two in what otherwise seems to be a smooth start to the school year. Lane said, "We are paying special attention to the heat index, and how that might impact conditions at our two buildings without air conditioning, West Side Early Childhood Center, and John Cline Elementary."
If it is decided to dismiss early because of the heat, the district will send out a notification using the SchoolMessenger system and their regular school emergency media outlets.
Lane concluded his email, saying, "Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making today a successful start to the 2020-2021 school year."
