Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate has announced that he will be sending money from the CARES Act to Winneshiek County and all 98 other counties in Iowa to help with expenses for the upcoming November election.
Each of the 99 Iowa counties funds will receive a base amount of $5,000, along with an additional $850 for each voting station. Winneshiek County will determine in September how many voting places it will be able to staff for November 3rd.
Winneshiek County can use the money from the state to purchase additional PPE, polling place supplies such as pens and secrecy folders, training materials for poll workers, and for disinfecting polling places.
The Secretary of State's Office also will be distributing personal protective equipment, including face shields, masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and social distancing markers for use at the polls.
