(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Randall Hanson of Calmar):
"Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx said on Facebook, 'such a (mask) mandate has already been deemed unlawful and unconstitutional by the Iowa Governor's Office, the Iowa Attorney General's Office, and the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office will not participate in the enforcement of any unlawful or unconstitutional actions, ordinances, or mandates.'
Dan Marx is plain wrong on this. Article III section 38A of the Iowa Constitution and chapter 364 of the Iowa Code talks about "Home Rule" which gives cities and counties the power to decide these things. And lastly, it's a city ordinance, not a county ordinance, so why did Dan Marx get so worked up about it in the first place? Sure, people called and messaged him, but he should not have said what he said."
