When will Decorah's mask mandate go into effect?

While the Decorah City Council voted Monday night to approve a mask wearing mandate in the community, it did not waive the second and third readings of the ordinance. That means there will be a delay in the effective date of the ordinance.
The ordinance must be published in the Decorah Newspapers, where the city publishes its official notices. Several city council members originally hoped the ordinance could go into in effect by waiving the three reading on Monday night, so that it would be in effect by the time classes began in the Decorah School District on Monday, August 24th.
Now it is anticipated the city council will hold a special session at 7:00 a.m. Friday to approve the second reading of the mask ordinance and to waive the third and final reading. The ordinance then would be published on Thursday, August 27th, becoming effective on that date.
