Decorah Mayor Lorraine Borowski has sent a letter to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

In it, Borowski asks the governor to "sub-delegate to local government the tools necessary for successfully navigating moving forward."  Specifically, she asks the power to be given to local municipalities to require mask wearing, as well as social distancing.

"Each of the the mayors and (city) councils are the boots on the ground for dealing with tasks at hand.  We have the know-how to meet our community's needs--if you allow us the authority to do so."

The mayor says each day is bringing new challenges to Decorah in terms of maintaining the economy while protecting health.

Says Borowski in her letter to the governor, "Allowing us the authority as communities to determine our best course of action will be paramount for us in preventing catastrophes for our rural small town."
