Time Magazine profiles a California congresswoman who is the granddaughter of a Decorah couple

In January of this year, when Democratic Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren had to cancel a campaign appearance scheduled for Decorah, she asked a former student of hers to act as her substitute.  There was a reason Katie Porter was asked the favor--she's not only a former student of Warren's, but is the granddaughter of former Decorah residents Don and Ilene Moore.

She's also a congresswoman from California's 45th District--a Democrat representing a long-time Republican stronghold.  That was one of the reasons Time magazine interviewed her for its issue this week.

The article by Time notes, "She grew up on a farm in Iowa, where her father was a farmer turned banker and her mother founded a magazine and a public-television show about quilting."

UPDATE: With Kamala Harris' selection as the Democratic Party's vice presidential candidate, there's now been talk of Katie Porter as a candidate for US Senate.
