Cresco man convicted of writing checks on the account of a dead woman is taken into custody for violating probation

Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies on Monday took 29-year-old Scott Simonds of Cresco into custody on a warrant for violation of probation.
Simonds was accused of three counts of forgery for allegedly passing bad checks at Norby's Farm Fleet in Decorah in August 2019. This May he entered a guilty plea to the three charges. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison on each count, to run concurrently, and also to run concurrent to
charges in Floyd County, Winnebago County, Fayette County, Mitchell County and Allamakee County. Simonds had entered guilty pleas in Winnebago County, Fayette County, Floyd County, Allamakee County and Fillmore County on charges relating to writing bad checks. Those sentences all were waived and he was placed on probation.
He is now in custody at the Winneshiek County Jail.
