More time needed to figure out what fall activities will look like for Decorah schools

Planning and preparation are well underway for fall activities in the Decorah Community School District, but as Superintendent Mark Lane said at Monday night's school board meeting, "We are far from our destination."

Lane continued, "There just aren't any easy answers when considering the complexity of it all for hosting events here in Decorah."

In recent weeks, Lane, Decorah High School Principal Kim Sheppard, and Athletic Director Adam Riley have spent hours together talking over guidelines for hosting events for extracurricular activities such as fall sports, band, choir, and orchestra events. There aren't any exact answers, but the district is putting time and effort into understanding the guidance.

Riley commented, "We are figuring out what steps worked for the baseball and softball seasons and what steps didn't.  There are lots of good things in place to help with the mitigation, but it just takes time to work our way through it."

The school district hopes to be ready by the end of next week to publicize more specific details about how the upcoming season's events will look.
