Powerful storms lead to numerous power outages

Posted: Mon, Aug 10, 2020 2:21 PM

Monday's severe weather caused significant damage and widespread power outages—more than 450 outages in Alliant Energy's Iowa service areas. A spokesperson for Alliant says power lines are down and many trees must be cleared before power can be restored.  Northeast Iowa was largely spared power outages, although nearly 2,000 customers in Cresco lost their power because of the storm.

As soon as it's safe to do so, Alliant says its crews will begin working to assess the situation and working to restore services. As of mid-afternoon Monday, the company said it was unable to provide an estimated time for fully restoring power.

Customers are reminded to stay away from downed power lines and be cautious when clearing tree limbs and brush near electrical equipment.

As updates become available, Alliant Energy will share them on their website.
